Depot Theatre Announces 2023 Season's Lineup

2023 marks the theatre's 45th season

WESTPORT | The Depot Theatre has just released its 2023 season lineup, which includes two contemporary thought-provoking plays and — with a nod to the past and the Depot’s 45th anniversary — "The Fantasticks!" The season begins with Heidi Schreck's "What the Constitution Means to Me." A middle-aged woman explores the nuances of the U.S. Constitution from her personal experiences as she recounts the cross-country journey she made when a 15-year-old debate champion. Each performance ends with a live debate on the Constitution with a student. The show runs from June 29 through July 16.

Next up is "Chesapeake" by Lee Blessing. A single actor portrays a string of disparate characters who rhetorically argue polar points of view on the value of art, politics, and the mysterious connections between dogs and their humans. The title is a reference to the Chesapeake retriever that plays an integral role in a heist gone wrong. Performances run from July 20 to Aug. 6.

The season ends with the world’s longest-running off-Broadway musical — and one from the Depot Theatre’s very first season — "The Fantasticks!" by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. This celebration of love and all its foibles is perhaps best known for its most iconic tune, “Try to Remember.” The season’s finale runs from Aug. 10-27.

“This season conveys a message collectively about meeting one another on a shared level and moving forward together,” said Michael Glavan, Depot Theatre Artistic Production Manager. “And as a bonus, each production tells a story with a solid dose of comedy!”
