Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen - Aurora Limited Edition

A natural wonder in the palm of your hand. Inspired by the breathtaking midnight green of the Aurora Borealis, the Aurora Limited Edition is a masterpiece of technical precision. As the final regional special color officially sanctioned by Kaweco, this release is designed for those who demand significance, impact, and a touch of mystique.

The Kaweco AL Sport Aurora Limited Edition is a real, discontinued regional special of the aluminum Sport, not a current catalog color from Kaweco Germany.

It is the second batch of the Midnight Green AL Sport that Pen & Tool (Singapore) developed with Kaweco around 2021–2022. The first batch was sold as Midnight Green; the follow-up was renamed Aurora and marketed as inspired by the midnight-green of the aurora borealis. Retailers describe it as the last regional special color Kaweco officially sanctioned before ending that kind of distributor collaboration (co-brands and collector editions excepted).

The “limited to 3,000 pieces” figure appears on reseller listings, including Peyton Street Pens, and is not contradicted by the original seller’s material.

What sets it apart from a standard AL Sport is the finish and trim, not the underlying design:

  • Sandblasted, matte anodized solid aluminum in a deep midnight green.

  • Cap branding done by double anodization so “Kaweco AL Sport” reads black against the green, rather than the usual laser-engraved look. The first Midnight Green batch used a different shadow-engraving process.

  • All-black stealth hardware: a PVD black-plated steel nib (often described as DLC) and a black metal Kaweco coin on the cap top.

  • Included black nostalgic clip, one black short cartridge, and a black tin with an edition sleeve. Standard AL Sports usually sell the clip separately.

The rest matches the classic 1935 octagonal Sport: about 105 mm closed, 130 mm posted, roughly 21–22 g, screw cap, and short international cartridges only. A mini converter fits; it is not an eyedropper. Nibs were offered in EF, F, M, B, and BB.

New retail was about US$138 at Pen & Tool. That listing and the main regional shops are sold out. Secondary examples have appeared around $150. A regular AL Sport is typically in the $75–90 range, so the premium was for the color, black hardware, included clip, and limited run—not a different writing system.

Kaweco steel nibs in this size are generally reliable everyday writers; the black coating is cosmetic and can show wear at the tipping with heavy use. Aluminum threads can gall over time, so a little silicone grease on the section threads is the usual precaution.
