The Best Farmers’ Markets in Every Borough

In New York City, you can get any food you crave at any given time. Thanks to the proliferation of local greenmarkets, this possibility extends to farm-fresh specialty items—grown on rooftop gardens and urban farms as well as in more rural locations. Year-round, vendors cull wine from Long Island, grass-fed beef from Pennsylvania and apples plucked straight from the orchard in Ulster County, and then set up booths in open-air farmers’ markets throughout the five boroughs. These markets increase in number during spring and summer and become places to mingle with neighbors (masked and at a distance, of course), hear live music or watch a cooking demonstration.

Make a day of it in your neighborhood or an area of the City you’ve wanted to visit: forgo the grocery store for a few hours in the sun, buying fresh seafood for dinner or indulging your sweet tooth with local honey, syrup and jam.

Read on for basic details of popular farmers’ markets across the five boroughs, and check out each one’s website for a full list of vendors.
